Prism - Tentacle Tribe (Montréal)

A quintet of dancers move between a reflective floor and movable mirror panels that they can manipulate from different angles. Kaleidoscopically multiplied tenfold, their bodies seamlessly unite and intermingle, in synergy with Höglund’s music. Prism opens up a myriad of possibilities, distorting perspec- tives and deconstructing movement into infinite combinations of colourful images. A dreamlike journey with a truly hypnotic effect.

Pop Up Dances Festival 2024

In September 2024 Pop Up Dances returns to public stairwells, tunnels, shopfronts and more with an exciting festival of dance in unusual spaces. This fall, the fan-favourite site-specific dance series will expand to a three-day festival, animating unexpected places across Vancouver Public Library and Granville Island!

All Over the Map 2024

New Works proudly presents All Over the Map 2024, a free series of outdoor dance and music performances taking place on Granville Island this summer! This season we are proud to feature eight artists and groups over four performances which will take over the Granville Island Picnic Pavilion on Sunday, July 21, and Sunday, August 11, 2024. Performances will take place at 1pm and 3pm, and audiences of all ages are welcome.

Cross-Pollination

Sharing Practice in Integrated Dance and Disability Arts. Exciting creative cross pollination begins this spring between Vancouver’s All Bodies Dance Project, dance artist Adam Grant Warren, and Ottawa’s Propeller Dance, as they begin a three-month creative exchange to share knowledge in dance-making and facilitation in integrated dance and disability arts.

Family Room - The Falling Company

Family Room is a poignant dance theatre piece choreographed by Marissa Wong which explores immigrant life and cultural identity – and the complexities of her Chinese-Canadian upbringing and navigating her parents' divorce. The innovative set design transforms the stage into a living room, each piece of furniture symbolizing familial connection and a foundation for interactions told through movement and text.

OSMOSi: 422 Unprocessable Entity - Nancy Lee

This interdisciplinary work weaves together movement, projection, spatial sound composition and interactive costuming to build an immersive world where the ground is constantly shifting beneath your feet. Reflecting on the religion of workism and precarity of gig economy labour, we are confronted by the everyday within the unexpected, swirling landscape of OSMOSi: 422 Unprocessable Entity.

Deciphers - Naishi Wang & Jean Abreu

Choreographers Naishi Wang and Jean Abreu came together in a new international collaboration exploring UK/Canada and Brazil/China cultural references related to poetry and vocal traditions of folk music. This cultural exchange creates a powerful physical journey and performance that demonstrates how the body can be used as an extraordinary tool for linguistic expression.

Zahak, The Serpent King - The Biting School 

Zahak was a prince who made a pact with the devil and killed his own father. The devil kissed him on the shoulders and there grew two snakes. The two snakes gave him so much pain and fear; but every time he cut them off, they would grow again. He is told there’s only one way he can calm them down, and that is to kill two young men every day and feed their brains to the snakes.

Pop Up Dances are site-specific performances that celebrate dance in all its forms. From Indigenous Hoop Dance to tap and contemporary dance, Pop Up Dances is a smorgasbord of creativity that audiences of all ages will enjoy.
