Family Room is a poignant dance theatre piece choreographed by Marissa Wong which explores immigrant life and cultural identity – and the complexities of her Chinese-Canadian upbringing and navigating her parents' divorce. The innovative set design transforms the stage into a living room, each piece of furniture symbolizing familial connection and a foundation for interactions told through movement and text. Performed by three versatile dancers, Family Room is a deeply personal and intimate work, which touches on universal themes including frustration, belonging, and love.

About The Falling Company

The Falling Company is a project based, contemporary dance company dedicated to the creation of inclusive spaces for dance and collaboration. The Falling Company is a nonprofit dance company under the direction of Marissa Wong. Formerly known as the response and founded by Amber Funk Barton, the company provides a homebase for creative work from a singular woman of colour. The Falling Company is invested in facilitating arts opportunities for underrepresented artists. These spaces depart from the power dynamics the artistic director experienced as a ballet dancer and are centered around positive mental health. The company creates meaningful relationships with artists, organizations, and opportunities that align with these values. Creations and productions of the company focus on blending classical ballet training with improvisation and release techniques. Works for the company reflect the human condition using movement to create accessible storytelling. Works place bodies and emotions in relatable landscapes to mirror the experiences of those who engage with the work. www.thefallingcompany.com
